About Me
Carl Melady
Hi! Welcome to my website.
My name is Carl Melady and I’m a 58 year old semi-retired ex-plasterer.

I’ve been married to my wonderful wife for over 30 years; have 2 grown up children and I’m a huge motorcycle racing fan.
In my spare time, I enjoy going to classic car meets and having fun in my 1976 mk2 ford escort 1600 sport which I restored myself.

I was a 100% private/domestic Trading Standards approved self-employed plasterer working directly with customers in their own homes and the content of my course reflects that.

Quick, high volume price work on new build sites where the focus is more on quantity than quality never interested me.

In 2013 after spending more years than I care to remember in the plastering trade, I decided to look into teaching my trade.

After deciding that doing it at college just wasn't quite for me, I took the plunge and went alone and I’m now into my 12th year teaching privately!
I have a proven track record of over a decade of high quality, face to face, hands-on tutoring.

FIRST RULE IN PLASTERING?

KEEP IT SIMPLE, DON'T OVER-COMPLICATE IT.
On my course, we will go through the process using ONE quality stainless steel Marshalltown permashape trowel.....nothing else.
No plaziflex, superflex, ultraflex, medi-flex, perma-flex or this that and the other flexi trowels...no plastic no spatulas and definitely NO sponge floats!
Quite simply, no gimmicks.
Just good old fashioned, old school methods using one trowel, keeping the process simple and uncomplicated which is exactly how it should be which is even more important if you're just starting out in this trade.

We will also go through how to do all your preparation of substrates correctly prior to re-skimming onto existing backgrounds, all in accordance with British Gypsum specifications and not from some random person making it up as they're going along on a 2 minute TikTok video.
Cutting corners in this trade has been a big problem for many years and I've seen the results of it many times over my career and I still see it today posted on the internet.
On my course, you will get to know exactly what you should be doing and using to prepare your surfaces correctly prior to re-skimming...again all to British Gypsum specs.
You'll be amazed at what I can teach you in a couple of days.
It could be the best £395.00 you will ever spend!

I look forward to seeing you on my course soon!

Carl.
